Back to School with a difference!
Hawthorn class are so pleased to be back in school after the challenges faced in the last academic year.
We are all very excited to be back with our friends, some of whom we have not seen for over five months! However, there have been lots of changes in school and things are very different to how they were before lockdown. We are enjoying being able to spend time in our class bubble as this means that we get to play with our friends at break and lunch times. There is lots of different equipment that we have in our class tub to use at break time, but we also get to enjoy the two climbing frames that we have at school. The playground rota is taking a little bit of getting used to, remembering which playground we are on each week to ensure time for quarantining the climbing equipment.
We are all working really hard to remember not to touch anything that is not our own and always washing and sanitising our hands. It has also been enjoyable having lunch together as a class either outside or in our classroom as all of the children are currently having packed lunches.
Finally, we think that our new burgundy uniform looks fantastic and makes us feel much smarter when we are in school.
We are looking forward to the year ahead and the learning and adventures this will bring!

Safer Internet Day 2020 will be celebrated globally with the theme:
‘Together for a better internet’
As next week is National internet safety week (10th- 14th February) we are fortunate enough to have another visit from PC Brigginshaw to deliver important internet safety information to the children at GHS. PC Brigginshaw will be holding age appropriate sessions for the different year groups, focusing on specific areas of significance in regards to the children’s safety online.
Topics explored during these sessions will include: making safe and sensible choices online, how to behave online, what to do if something makes you feel uncomfortable online and the use of gaming and social media platforms.
In addition to the sessions with the children, PC Brigginshaw will also be holding a parent/carers workshop session where he will provide key information on how you as adults can help to keep children safe online. PC Brigginshaw will be around after the session too if there are any questions or queries you may have or feel you need further support with.
The internet safety sessions will be taking place on the afternoon of Tuesday 11th February 2020. The parent/carer workshop will be held at 3:30pm and will include a variety of useful hints and tips on how to keep children safe when they are online.
Please email the office on office@greathorwoodschool.org to confirm your attendance to the after school session.
We hope to see you there!

Thank you to all the parents that came to the maths workshop last week. I hope that you found it informative and useful to look at how we teach maths across the year groups and some of the resources that we use to support the children. The presentation and calculation policy can be found on the school website under the GHS curriculum, maths tab. Thank you to Mrs Webb for leading and to the other teachers for giving up their time to answer all your questions.
