Last updated 2 March 2026

Well done to all the children — and parents — who remembered to come to school in their Scouting or Guiding uniforms last week to mark World Thinking Day. It was wonderful to see how many members of our school community also belong to a range of other groups, including swimming and tennis clubs, go‑karting teams and football clubs.

This half term in worship, we are focusing on the values of Love and Community. We have been reflecting on the different communities we belong to and considering what makes each of them special.

Thursday 5th March World Book Day.

This year children may choose to come dressed as a book character, in their PJ's or in their uniform. AS part of our work on British and school values we will learn to respect the choices around chosen attire on world book day. Children need to bring into school their favourite book to share with their class. At 2.30pm Parents and children are welcome to come into school to sharing books together. An opportunity to read stories to each other. There will also be an opportunity for parents to visit classrooms and for the children to show you their work.

Friday 6th March 10.00am - Buckinghamshire Fire Station – Safety Education Workshops for Hawthorns Class

We are very pleased to be welcoming the firefighter crew from Buckingham Fire Station, who will be visiting Hawthorns Class to deliver a Fire Safety Education Workshop.

During the session, pupils will learn about the important role firefighters play in keeping our communities safe and will explore the range of equipment and responsibilities involved in their work.

The workshop will help children understand the common causes of fire, how fires can start, and what everyone can do to prevent them. Pupils will also learn about smoke alarms, what to do if there is a fire at home, and how to create a simple family escape plan.

In addition, the workshop includes a section on water safety, helping children to understand how to stay safe near rivers, lakes and other open water.

We are looking forward to a valuable and engaging learning experience for the class.

Week Beginning 9th March - NSPCC 'Speak out Stay Safe' Programme

During this week, children in EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 will be taking part in the NSPCC’s Speak out. Stay safe. virtual assemblies. These sessions form an important part of our PSHE/RSE curriculum and build on earlier learning around Pantasaurus and consent from the autumn term, as well as the Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) work that will take place in the summer.

Speak out. Stay safe. is a nationally recognised programme for children aged 5–11. It helps pupils understand what abuse is, how to recognise signs that something isn’t right, and what they can do if they ever feel worried. Children are encouraged to speak to a trusted adult or contact Childline if they need help.

The programme is carefully designed to be age‑appropriate. It includes virtual assemblies and follow‑up classroom activities. The sessions are engaging, reassuring and supported by Buddy, the NSPCC’s friendly mascot.

If you feel your child may need additional support before, during or after taking part—whether due to past or current experiences—please let us know so we can provide the right help

If you would like to know more about the Speak out. Stay safe. programme visit www.nspcc.org.uk/speakout.

A parent letter will be accompanying this SWAY newsletter with additional information about the pupil survey and content of the virtual assemblies.
